On this episode, listen to the interview with Rob Woodcox, a fine art photographer and film director currently living between Mexico and the US. As he creates each artwork, Rob strives to capture fragments of a vivid life sewn by the threads of reality, memory and dream. Each concept is a declaration of his experience and seeks to tell a meaningful story to each individual that views it.
Rob's passion for photography has developed into a dedication to advocacy; he has produced projects raising consciousness and conversation around the US foster system and adoption, queer identity, body neutrality, racial equality and environmental justice. Having been adopted as a child and interacting often with the foster care system, Rob creates from a unique perspective, finding hope in human connection and the will to overcome negative constructs within our complex societies.
In 2013 Rob went through his own "coming out" experience, a societal passage only necessary from the lack of education and acceptance within the greater population. Though a challenging and demanding experience, Rob used this energy to pursue his photographic goals full time and began touring the world teaching workshops and creating sponsored content. Rob has taught thousands of students in 6 continents, 15 countries and over 35 cities worldwide. He has been featured in various major publications, exhibitions and has produced commercial work for clients like Apple, Universal Pictures and Capitol Records. In 2020 Rob released his first photographic art book "Bodies of Light".
In 2021 Rob took on his first directorial film role in "We Are Molecular" in partnership with Dr Barbara Sturm and the Royal Ballet in London. He continued his film debut directing his first music video "Spiral" alongside Ry X in 2022, also developing his first 2 short films. His work was seen in museums and festivals globally. He continues to embark upon new personal and client creative endeavors in both photographic and film direction.

In this final episode of 2022, we chat with Ashok Sinha about his love for cool cars and architectural photography launched the journey to create his book, Gas and Glamour. He jokes that the project was more than just a way to escape in-laws during family visits to LA but truly was a passion project. Before knowing the body of work would become a book – and more recently, an NFT series of 1/1 images – he knew he wanted to draw loving attention to the original buildings that were designed to celebrate Los Angeles’ original love affair with the car culture of the ’50s and ’60s. Some funny things happened while shooting the project and Ashok shares his favorite stories about an LA shake-down, a neon windmill, free pizza, and a giant drive-through donut. Recorded December 21, 2022.
Our speakers: Ashok Sinha and Pam Voth.

In this Monday episode, collector Tomakinz (@Tkcurated) joins us from the Sunshine Coast of Australia. He’s been collecting since the Crypto Punks and Kitties were called decentralized apps, not NFTs. He had some of those and really misses them. His collecting has expanded to include art and photography. He’s come to realize that he learns a little more about himself with each piece he collects. Tk’s hope is that this NFT art space will evolve to be a trustless place with “no silos and walled gardens” where we can all just be humans enjoying the experience of creating, selling, and buying art. Recorded December 19, 2022.
Our speakers: Tkcurated - Tomakinz, Subodh Shetty, Ev Tchebotarev, HChip, Michael Hartley, Kirit Prajapati, Levin Art Group, Prakash Gai, and host Pam Voth.

Today marks our 50th episode of the Sloika Darkroom podcast! Thanks to everyone who’s been part of our journey! We chat with the creative team behind the Nexus collaboration including macro artist Bruno Militelli, and Remx team members, Mike Montgomery and Filippo Di Trapani. Nexus is packed full of firsts. Bruno brings us a unique macro view of bubbles never before seen and offers collectors the chance to claim a 1/1 Remx 3D digital wearable that features their piece artistically imprinted on it. Sloika co-founder, Ev Tchebotarev, introduced the collaborators to each other earlier this year which was the spark it took to bring this innovative collection to life. He is enthusiastic about future possibilities. Even though we are early in this space, creators can imagine what is possible and know there are builders like Sloika and Remx out there creating tools to merge art and technology. Recorded December 14, 2022.

In this Monday episode, Jordan Banks is our featured guest. He is a photographer, educator, founding editor of JRNY Magazine, and the 14th photographer to mint on Sloika! It’s been almost a year since our last Twitter Space chat, so we had a lot to catch up on. Jordan remembers taking pictures in his mind as a kid, always looking to find that perspective that was uniquely his own. So, it was only natural he’d grow into a life where photography was part of his everyday life. He was inspired by famed photojournalist, James Nachtwey, to show the world the way it really is. As a co-founding editor for JRNY Magazine, he is excited to be building a web3 ecosystem that produces a stunning, high-value publication featuring long-form journalism and creates a sustainable economic model for the creators involved. Recorded December 12, 2022.

In this Monday episode, Steve Bennett, who says he was ‘born in a tray of a developer’ in his Dad’s darkroom joins us to talk about collecting NFTs from artists and creating his own photography. Steve considers himself a lens-based artist and says his photography falls into two camps: the seen world and the re-imagined world. Early on in his NFT journey, Steve received advice from an early innovator in the photo NFT space, Andrew Mease, that would likely play into the fact that Steve is now ranked as the third-highest collector on Sloika. That advice? “You gotta collect!” Our chat covers lots of ground, including an appearance on Oprah to talk about a book he wrote on parenting. We chat about “Nature’s Layer Cake,” the edition Steve just launched on Sloika, the creator’s satisfaction triangle, and the pleasure of paying it forward. Recorded on December 5, 2022.

In this Wednesday episode, we meet artist Dasha Pears who joins us from Helsinki to talk about the path she traversed to arrive at her style of psychorealism in her photographic works. She recalls that growing up, she had the privilege of having any book she desired due to her mother owning a chain of bookstores. Much better than a library, where you have to return the books! She chose books about art, fantasy, and science fiction. In her NFT photography series, “Uncertainty,” Dasha wanted to show what is going on inside a human’s mind. Her geometrical, rhythmic, and minimalist artworks invite the viewer to have peace of mind about emotions and allow them to be visible. While she creates very organized worlds in her art, she admits that achieving that in real life is an ongoing practice. Real life is rarely so clean and free of distractions! Recorded on November 30, 2022.
