In this Mandarin episode, I compare the appointment cultures in China and Europe & US: How prevalent is the appointment culture? When do you have to make an appointment to get service?  Can you see a doctor or get a haircut relatively conveniently without appointments? And how may this cultural different potentially affect you?

Some useful words:

  1.  预约文化 (yù yuē wén huà): appointment culture
  2. 提前(Tíqián): in advance
  3. 看医生/看病 (kàn yīshēng/kànbìng): see a doctor
  4. 位置 (Wèizhì): place, location
  5. 满 (mǎn): full
  6. 剪头发 (jiǎn tóufǎ): cut hair
  7. 理发师 (lǐfǎ shī): hair dresser (literal. manage hair master)
  8. 不然 (Bùrán) (的话): otherwise
  9. 得到(dédào): get
  10. 习惯 (xíguàn): habit
  11. 安装家具 (jiājù): install/assembly furniture
  12. 当然 (dāngrán): of course
  13. 随便 (suíbiàn): casually
  14. 基本 (jīběn): basic, basically
  15. 才能(cáinéng): ... only then
  16. 错过 (cuòguò) : miss (appointment, opportunity)
  17. 适应 (shìyìng): adapt to, fit
  18. 随时 (suíshí): at any time
  19. 开会 (kāi huì): have a meeting
  20. 谈事情 (tán shìqíng): talk about things (e.g. business deals)
