The Walking Dead

In this session, we play a dubious game of follow the leader as we discuss both good and bad leadership in pop culture. Your 30 Minutes of Diabolical begins now…

If you enjoy the show, never miss a session and subscribe on iTunes. We drop something new every Wednesday.

You can reach Chuck on Twitter @Romba and Curtis @86Cujo. Feel free to tweet us away, but be sure to use the hashtag #TeamDiabolical for all tweets about the show. Who knows, your tweet could be featured on an upcoming show!

President Whitmore (Independence Day)

If you’re looking to the silver screen for leadership inspiration, your search should begin and end with President Whitmore from the film Independence Day. Played charismatically by Bill Pullman, Whitmore is a leader who isn’t afraid to get down in the trenches with those he commands. Transparency? This President has everyone’s trust and with good reason. Oh and lest we forget his innate ability to deliver crowd inspiring speeches based on our Independence Day. For these reasons and more, President Whitmore is chief among Team Diabolical’s favorite cinematic leaders.

Andrew Ryan (Bioshock)

If you’re a gamer (and aren’t we all), the name Andrew Ryan evokes a leader whom we only encounter in person for a few short minutes, but it’s a name that will never be forgotten by those of us who have walked the dark claustrophobic hallways of Rapture. A man who feels like Howard Hughes and looks somewhat like Walt Disney, Ryan can be heard dropping his Objectivist ideals and Atheistic flavor all throughout your journey in Rapture. A Man with a disdain for Government, this leader embraces chaos and despises parasites. Welcome to Rapture.

This Week’s Dope… and Nope?

 Chuck’s Dope

The Flash Series – The CW’s Flash TV Series has been a go-to watch for me this season. While it’s far from my favorite show, and I readily admit the acting can, at times, painfully remind you that you’re watching a CW presentation, it’s portrayal of the Flash character and that universe has mostly been enjoyable. The character of Harrison Wells has, for me, been the true star of the show as I feel he really drives the narrative and overall mystique of the program. This was never more apparent than in the recent “Out of Time” episode where Wells finally reveals himself to be the notorious Reverse Flash. I dare say this reveal is the best scene the show has delivered up to this point and easily triggered a dope relapse for me. If you’ve been a hold out on this show, now might be a good time to check it out.

The Last Man on Earth – It’s too early to completely abandon all hope, but when the identity of a show shifts dramatically- and by identity, I mean the loss of a boss beard on The Last Man on Earth, I question the direction of a show that, merely a week ago, I was singing the praises of. Can this tonal shift and the alienation of this viewer be repaired? The answer is; I don’t know, I just don’t know.
