The Last Man on Earth (1964)

While Team Diabolical fully acknowledges that 1964’s The Last Man on Earth isn’t a cinematic masterpiece, you are treated to the eloquent ramblings of one Vincent Price- that alone is worth the price of admission in our book. Vincent Price was a staple in horror and sci-fi back in the 50’s and 60’s, with good reason; the man had a legendary voice and could deliver even the most banal lines in horrific fashion. Check the links below to hear Vincent Price monologue from The Last Man on Earth.

The Stand

Any conversation on the portrayal of loneliness or isolation in media takes our minds back to Stephen King’s yarn which was spun into a mini-series.  After a plague lays waste to the world wiping out 95% of humanity- we consider the survivors scattered and how they each face their own demons and loneliness of empty metropolises.  A haunting portrayal that is rife for a revisit.

This Week’s Dope

 Chuck’s Dope

The Returned – The Returned recently premiered on the A&E channel and so far has my mind a buzz. The story is setting up to be quite the mystery and anytime you can deliver on a consistent creep factor, you have my attention. The production value seems to be on par with shows like The Walking Dead and Mad Men, and of course, Carlton Cuse’s involvement certainly has me intrigued. While it’s still much too early to call this a winner, it has my attention and brought about my dope this week. Check out the first two episodes on demand, it’s worth your time.

Tron 3 – The Grid has always been shrouded in mystery, so when rumors hit the web that the TRON 3 wheels were turning programs every where lit up. That buzz was my dope this week- pondering what directions the franchise may turn.  Grid dweller or not, this franchise continues to be one that fans of visual/audio stimulation everywhere anticipate. Tron Lives!
