3 girls and a mic
3 girls and a mic podcast was created with the intention of disrupting the monolithic idea of the African and their narrative on mainstream media. Hosted by 3 young African women, a Mozambican and 2 Kenyan twins (Salina Bernardino, Cindy Nasenya and Sandra Aseka). Together, we discuss different issues that we encounter in our day to day lives, as well as critique current events and discuss socio-political and mental health issues. We purpose to add to conversations centred on the voices of young Africans
Let’s talk about quitting and getting fired
In this episode we cover our experiences pertaining to leaving jobs. If you’ve employed one of us and feel that we were critiquing you, it’s not personal. It is what it is. But also, welcome to your tape 🙂 (13 reasons why reference). Sandra was pet-sitting while we were recording this episode. Apologies for any cats that might be heard meowing in the background.

Redefining Love
Inspired by Khadija Mbowe's video analysis of Netflix's The Ultimatum, the girls talk about love and possessiveness, hierarchy within love relationships, how the concept of "the one" stems from a scarcity mindset and much more. Cindy also expounds a little more on relationship anarchy, polyamory and ethical non monogamy. (PS// while editing another episode, Cindy mistakenly tampered with this one and deleted a short segment. A really short one, like 1, maybe 2 seconds. My sincerest apologies) Resources:  You don't own your partners 😗 The Ultimatum, love and possession analyzed by Khadija Mbowe The Ultimatum' & Supported Self-Sabotage by Tee Noir  All About Love by bell hooks Many Love: A Memoir of Polyamory and Finding Love(s) by Sophie Lucido Johnson Pleasure Activism: The Politics of Feeling Good by by Adrienne Maree Brown.

14 questions with an 11 year old
For this episode, we’re graced by Kesie, an aspiring popstar and a young Kenyan living in Germany, taking on the world one day at a time. We got to interview her and delight in her intelligence. We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it. Questions asked: What do you think your life will be like in the future? How would you change the world if you could? If you switched places with your teacher tomorrow, what would you teach the class? If you could set one rule for the family that we all have to follow, what would it be?  What do you feel are the most important things to living a great life? Of all the things you’re learning, what do you think will be most useful as an adult? If you could write a letter to your your future self to know, what would you like to ask/tell them? If you could travel back in time 3 years, what advice would you give yourself?  Do you ever get stressed, what stresses you (if you do) and how does it affect your normal functioning? How’s your relationship with your caregivers, how do you see life and what are you enjoying at the moment? What do you do when you can’t sleep at night?  If you were told you would live forever, what would you change about your life?

Everybody hates Chris!
It’s 2022, and ignorance is not bliss, not any longer. As people who do not know Jada Pickett-Smith, Will Smith and Chris Rock personally, we critique Chris’ bad joke and the smackdown that quickly followed. Chris Rock joked about Jada Pinkett-Smith starring in "G.I. Jane 2" apparently because her head is shaved. Will Smith then walked to the stage and slapped Chris Rock. Once seated he (Will Smith) yelled at Rock "Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!” We talk about insults and willful ignorance masquerading as humor, and whether violence can ever be justified. We talk about this thing that happens all the time where women get decentred from their issues when men enter the picture. We talk about men needing a therapy & support group for the healing they’re clearly in need of. Then, there’s the Lupita memes 😂😂 The part of Will’s speech that we referenced (towards the end of the podcast): “Denzel [Washington] said to me a few minutes ago, he said, ‘At your highest moment, that’s when the devil comes for you… I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people … Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father just like they said … just like they said about Richard Williams. Love will make you do crazy things.”

Ask me a question: post valentine’s check-in
Cindy asks Salina and Sandra a bunch of questions from the internet on love, romance and Valentine’s. The girls laugh through revelations of who amongst them has written love poems and love letters for their significant other. They talk about internet love, and extraordinary love that doesn’t last forever vs ordinary love that lasts forever, and a whole lot more! The questions asked: 1. Would you rather have more money or more time and why? 2. Is Valentine’s Day more for men or women? 3. Do you believe vulnerability is a good thing when it comes to love? 4. Who is most likely to write a love song? 5. Do you consider yourself romantic? 6. Would you rather have extraordinarily love that doesn’t last forever or ordinary love that does? 7. Do you believe it’s possible to fall in love on the internet? 8. If you could change anything about Valentine’s Day, what would you change? 9. How do you deal with unwanted romantic attention?

Don’t Look Up Review
On today’s serious episode of capitalists are mad mad and people don’t use their brains, we critique Don’t Look Up, a Netflix Movie about the end of the world. Considering the pandemic, how befitting to put out a movie about the end of the world (as we know it). Anyways, the books quoted in the episode are Capitalism Must Die by Stephanie McMillan, The ABCs of Socialism by Bhaskar Sunkara and Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center by bell hooks

The Body Debate
From body positivity to body neutrality and Radical Body Acceptance to Radical Self Love. There’s so much lingo and controlling images within society to police how we exist in our bodies, and whether we should be happy or confident with how we are and how we look. We sit down to sift through all the noise, and hope to inspire you to be more intentional with how you view & love your body, as well as how you do the same for others.
