After the Anglo-Saxon king of England, Edward the Confessor, died in January 1066, an Anglo-Saxon aristocrat, Harold Godwinson, assumed the throne.  There was a slight problem.   William, Duke of Normandy, claimed that Edward had promised him the crown.<BR>
