One was flabby and the other was skinny. むかしむかし、二匹の豚さんがいました。一匹はまるまるなぶたさん（太った豚）で、 もう一匹はがりがりな豚さん（痩せこけた豚）でした。 ☆One day, a big eating competition took place in a farmer’s barn and the winner would win a year’s worth of apples.  ある日、大食い大会が農家の納屋で行われました。優勝者は一年分のリンゴ賞品がもらえました。 ☆Every pig who heard this news was enthusiastic about taking part in this competition. この大食いニュースを聞いた豚たちは皆、とても参加したかったです。 ☆“I will definitely defeat you!” said the flabby pig. 僕は確実にきみを負かすぞ！ ☆“Look! I have a wider mouth and a larger belly than you,” proudly said the flabby pig. これを見て！僕はきみより広い口とお腹を持ってるぞ！ ☆“Hey, check this out! My teeth are all sharp and I can bite quicker than you. I pride myself on my eating speed,” said the skinny pig. こっちこそ見てよ！僕の歯はみんな鋭いぞ！きみより早く食べれるし。僕は食べるスピードを自慢してる。 ☆“So, let’s see who will win this competition then,” said the flabby pig. なら、誰がこの大食い大会で勝つのを見よう！ ☆The big eating competition started on Monday. The competitors numbered over 100 pigs.  大食い大会は月曜日から始まりました。参加した豚さんが100匹以上出ました。 ☆In the beginning, they all ate happily and felt so satisfied. They ate corn the whole day. Not one pig wanted to give up. 最初、参加した豚さんは皆楽しく食べてとても満足していました。一日中ずっとトウモロコシを食べていました。 誰も諦めたくなかったです。 ☆ “The corn is absolutely delicious!” said the flabby pig. トウモロコシはとてもおいしいね ☆“Indeed, it’s extremely tasty,” said the skinny pig. 本当に、とてもおいしいよね ☆On Tuesday, some of the pigs seemed tired and hardly ate at all, others started eating slowly, and still others kept on eating and eating at a rapid pace. 火曜日、数匹の豚さんが疲れたように見えて食べるのが辛く、数匹は 食べるのが遅くなり、他の数匹は今まで通りずっと速いベースで食べていました。 ☆“I am good. I will” said the skinny pig. まだまだだよ！僕の方が勝つぞ！ ☆On Thursday, the flabby pig kept on gobbling up the corn and saw another quarter of the pigs giving up and leaving the farmer’s barn. 木曜日、まるまるな豚さんはトウモロコシをがつがつ食べ続け、他の1/4の豚さんが諦めて、納屋から出たのを見ました。 ☆Now, half were gone. Meanwhile, the skinny pig gorged himself on corn. 今、半分の豚さんがいなかったです。その間、がりがりの豚さんがトウモロコシを腹いっぱいに詰め込みました。 ☆On Friday, the flabby pig kept on eating, shoving down three ears of corn at once and saw another quarter of the pigs giving up and leaving the farmer’s barn.  金曜日、まるまるの豚さんがずっと食べていて、トウモロコシを3本、口の中に同時に押し入れて、他の1/4の豚さんが諦めて、納屋から出たのをみました。 ☆Now three-quarters were gone. 今、3/4の豚さんがいなかったです。 ☆“Hey, you got slower!” said the flabby pig. やあ！きみ、遅くなるぞ！ ☆“Not exactly. I just keep my energy and will polish off all the corn soon ,” said the skinny pig. 全くそういうわけではない！ただ僕のちからを保って、トウモロコシを全部食べてしまうぞ！ ☆On Saturday, the flabby pig got a little sick but still tried to be confident and saw the rest of the pigs giving up and leaving the farmer’s barn. 土曜日、まるまるの豚さんはちょっと気分が悪くなりましたが、自信があるように見せ、 そして最後1/4の豚さんが諦めて、納屋から出たのを見ました。 ☆The skinny pig ate another ear of corn, which was now flavorless, and turned to the flabby pig with a deadpan look. がりがりの豚さんが味のないトウモロコシをもう一本食べ、そして、まるまるの豚さんに無表情で振り向いていました。 ☆"Well, it looks like it’s down to just you and me,” said the flabby pig. そうだね、きみと僕しかいなさそうだね！ ☆“Yes, it is!” replied the skinny pig with a dull face. まあね、がりがりの豚さんが何食わぬ顔で返事をしました。 ☆On Sunday, both of them did not want to eat any more corn , but they really wanted to beat each other, so they kept pushing themselves hard to have one more bite. 土曜日、二匹の豚さんは全然食べたくなかったのですが、相手を本当に負かしたかったので、無理して一口でも食べ続けました。 ☆“I feel so sick. I can’t eat any more,” said the skinny pig and stopped. もう気分が悪いよ。全然食べられない！ ☆While skinny pig spoke out about giving up, the final bell rang and flabby pig was congratulated for winning the prize, one year’s worth of apples. がりがりの豚さんが諦めようと言い出したところで、タイムアップのベルが鳴り、 そしてまるまるの豚さんが優勝者となったというお祝いが来ました。賞品は一年分のリンゴです。   ☆“Yeah, I win! I win the big eating competition” said the flabby pig with tears in his eyes. イェーイ！勝った！勝った！僕が大食い大会で勝った！目から涙を出しながら言いました。 ☆While he was full of joy, suddenly a famer showed up and ran into the barn. 喜びが一杯な時、突然お百姓さんが出てきて、納屋に入ってきました。 ☆“I need to pick the biggest and fattest pig to sell and earn some money!” said the farmer as he looked for a pig in the barn. 一番大きくて太い豚を選んで、売りに出してちょっとお金を稼ごう！お百姓さんが納屋で豚を探しながら言いました。 ☆Then he stopped in front of flabby pig. This was the one, so he moved him out of the barn in a cage. そして、お百姓さんがまるまるの豚さんの前に来ました。こいつだ！まるまるの豚さんをケージに入れて納屋から運び出しました。 ☆“What a shame that flabby pig was picked! Let’s go!” said the puny bird.  準備万端.出発しよう！ ☆On Tuesday night, the weather was nice and they had flown over 1 island and 9 mountains from the starting point. 火曜日の夜、いい天気でした。鳥たちは出発点からもう島が一つと山は9カ所飛び越えました。 ☆“Hey, I am faster than you!” said the mighty bird. 僕はきみより早いぞ！ ☆“It’s not over until the fat lady sings!” said the puny bird.  最後まで結果を安易に決め込むな！ ☆On Wednesday night, the shining full moon lit the black sky. They had flown over 2 islands and 18 mountains from the starting point.  水曜日の夜、真っ暗な空に満月が光っていました。鳥たちは出発点からもう島が2つと山は18カ所飛び越えました。 ☆On Thursday night, it was cloudy with a little wind. They had flown over 3 islands and 27 mountains from the starting point.  木曜日の夜、曇ってて風もすこしありました。鳥たちは出発点からもう島が3つと山は27カ所飛び越えました。 ☆On Friday night, the sky grew dark and overcast. It started to get windy. They had flown over 4 islands and 36 mountains from the starting point. 金曜日の夜、空は暗くなり、曇りました。風は強くなりました。鳥たちは出発点からもう島が4つと山は36カ所飛び越えました。 ☆“You got slower! I am still faster than you!” said the mighty bird. きみ、遅くなったよ！僕のほうがずっと早いよ！ ☆“I’m gonna stick with it,” said the puny bird.  諦めないよ！ ☆On Saturday night, it was a stormy night with thunder and lightning. They had flown over 5 islands and 45 mountains from the starting point . 土曜日の夜、雷と稲光があった暴風雨の夜でした。鳥たちは出発点からもう島が5つと山は45カ所飛び越えました。 ☆They were almost to the southern island, but they had no choice but to take a rest due to very bad weather. 鳥たちはもうすぐ南の島に着きますが、悪い天気で休まざるを得ません。 ☆“The rain is too heavy and the wind is too strong to keep flying. So, let’s take a nap to rest up for tomorrow,” said the mighty bird. “Roger!” said the puny bird.  雨も酷すぎて風も強すぎてもう飛べないよ。だから、ちょっと休憩しよう。よく休んでから明日出発しよう。 ☆Then the two birds came in to land and went to have a rest respectively. However, the mighty bird did not want to lose this race. He snuck out and flew away to the southern island. それで、鳥たちは着陸してそれぞれ休みました。しかし、強い鳥さんがこのレースを負けたくなかったので。こっそりと南の島へ飛んで行きました。 ☆“Haha! Don’t even think about beating me!” said the mighty bird.  はは！僕を倒すのはまだまだだよ！ ☆The next day, on Sunday morning, the storm had passed though. The puny bird didn’t find the mighty bird. He rushed and kept flying to the southern island alone. 翌日、日曜日の朝、暴風雨が過ぎました。弱い鳥さんは強い鳥さんが見つからなかったのです。一人で南の島へ急いで飛び続けていました。 ☆On Sunday noon, the puny bird arrived at the destination. He had flown over 6 islands and 54 mountains from the starting point. But he couldn’t find the mighty bird at all. 日曜日の昼、弱い鳥さんはもう目的地に着きました。彼は出発点からもう島が6つと山54カ所を飛び越えました。 しかし、そこで強い鳥さんがぜんぜん見つからなかったのです。 ☆“Did anyone see the mighty bird?” asked the puny bird. “No, I didn’t……” answered the other birds. “Now what?” said the puny bird. だれか強い鳥さんを見た鳥がいませんか？ いいえ、見てないよ。今どうすればいいのですか？ ☆While sitting under a tree, here came a bear. 木の下で座っているところに、ちょうど熊が一匹やってきました。 ☆“Did you see the mighty bird?” asked the puny bird. 強い鳥さんを見ましたか？ ☆“I am afraid not, my friend. I will leave it for you,” said the city ant. あ！そうだ！まだゴキブリの足が私の冷蔵庫に一本残ってて、それをあげようか。 ☆"I really appreciate it. Wow, I can't wait to eat them. My mouth is watering now. I have never been to the city, not even once. Please take me to your city. While going into the house, they suddenly saw a boy running over to them with his thumb and forefinger out to catch them. Little did they know, the boy wanted to put them in his blue toy car. そして、二匹の蟻さんは出発して、町の蟻さんの家に着きました。家に入ろうとした時、突然男の子が一人走ってきて、 親指と人差し指でアリたちを捕まえようとするのを目の前で見ました。ほとんど何も知らないままの二匹の蟻さん、この男の子実 は蟻たちを青いおもちゃの車に載せたかったです。 ☆The two ants were frightened to death and they hurriedly ran into a little hole in the wall. 二匹の蟻さんは死ぬほど怖かったです。足早に壁にある小さいな穴に入りこみました。 ☆"At times it's a little dangerous but there is still a lot of good food to eat in the city,”said the city ant. 偶にはちょっと危ないんだよ。でも、美味しい物がまだまだあるよ。 ☆"The city is too dangerous for me.
