5115-Ep 8-Bands That Should Have Stopped Long Ago
Our main topic in this episode: Bands That Should Have Stopped Long AgoYour favorite band is releasing their new album, now 8 albums in, and they haven’t had a misstep. You get home and throw it on and it’s. . .not good. Something has changed, and with each new release, they never recapture the magic. Time to pack it in?  That’s what we discuss, and we lay out bands that we think fall within 3 categories: Bands that are still releasing good new music, bands that went out on top, and My God, please stop. Subjective? Absolutely. Fun? Oh yes.But before that we throw out this good stuff:-Maple-syrup eatin’ Canadians blowin’ their smoke into ‘Merica? 5115-Ep 7:Has R.E.M. Been Erased? (Or, Nostalgia Is A Disease)
Based off a conversation around one of Lee’s favorite bands, R.E.M., they were one of the biggest bands in the world in the early 90s-fast forward to today and it seems they’ve all but been erased.  Their first 5 albums are masterpieces (IOO), yet current indie bands rarely name them as influences, unlike The Replacements, The Smiths, or The Cure, to name a few of their contemporaries. In response, Cass mentioned a topic that comes up often in music, nostalgia, and threw out  “nostalgia is a disease”. And so she does a deep dive into the reasons why R.E.M doesn’t factor into music influence today and how nostalgia plays a part. But first:-Sprinkles Are Monstrous-Has Taylor Swift reached a Michael Jackson level of fame? Cass has thoughts.-Busch Apple! Busch Peach! And now . . .Busch Corn?-Hype Men: There’s Chuck D & Jerome with The Time, for example. Then there’s Bez, from The Happy Mondays.  Watch and wonder-they pay him to do this.https://www.tiktok.com/@fuckyralgorithm/video/7243475564072340779-New segment! 5115-Ep 6:The Satanic Panic-Still Going & Still Blaming the Music
Our main topic:The Satanic Panic-a moral panic consisting of over 12,000 unsubstantiated cases of Satanic ritual abuse starting in the US in the 80s.Of those, investigating police were not able to substantiate any allegations of organized cult abuse. A lot to unpack and multiple facets, but we're focuing on the musical aspect in this episode: the 80's with Ozzy, Judas Priest, amd the PMRC, all the way to today, it's still a thing-music has been a prime scapegoat. From Vox: "Perhaps the most common misunderstanding about “Satanic Panic” — the societal fear of the occult that troubled the US and other parts of the world throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s — is that it ever ended. https://www.vox.com/culture/22358153/satanic-panic-ritual-abuse-history-conspiracy-theories-explainedAnd we get into:Andy Rourke-RememberedFinal episode of Succession1990: The Bronx Warriors-Delinquent Trash Person-A must-watch movieCan you train a rabbit?
