KEEP THE METAPHORS AT THE TOP OF THE EPISODE PLEASE Great legal podcast, y'all should be on the court instead of the current Facists. Also, there are tons of problems with the "subscriber only" episodes vs the Paterson episodes vs the "subscriber" episodes. There are ads in the premium feed and this seems lame, and other podcasts have a subscriber feed to fix these issues which would be cool if y'all did.

Huge fan!
All the hosts incredible! Rianna you rock! Thank you for delivering great info. State of law is def dark so appreciate your banter and jokes.

Show Needs a New Name
The show is no longer about close decisions that suck. It’s also about clear decisions, with solid legal basis, which the crew don’t like.

Ads
Has like 5 minutes of ads in each episode now, probably too much for me to keep listening. Call me old fashioned, but you get either ads OR paywalled content, not both. I guess they got too famous and want to cash out at our expense, kind of disappointing.

The Sea of psyopped sanctimony
God forbid any legitimate or irl hardship were ever to befall this soft bug person, lest he unable to square his cognitive dissonance with objective reality. These sadists smell their own farts; but I guess that goes hand in hand with crawling in sewers whenever somebody on the left engages in equally or more heinous acts than their OrangeCrush does. Pretending to care about the victims of the Israeli monster, Epstein seems to be their latest LARP. Had 7 years to voice their outrage. Don’t care until Orange man is involved to their liking. Just pathetic.

Ad free should mean no ads
Canceled my ad-free subscription because, like the law, words don’t mean anything anymore.

Great show; iffy subscription
I love the show and the hosts, which is why I subscribed and look forward to every single episode. But the subscriber edition, at least on Apple, is a mess. Lately there have been ads, at least for other Prologue Projects, that awkwardly interrupt, and the subscriber episodes load in waaaaaay later (half a day or more) than the “teaser” version. So as a regular show, 5 stars. Paterson version: 3.

Voting Rights Act
I’ve been a fan for almost 4 years but the latest episode about the voting rights act is incredible. The gang has really hit their stride and the history is important to understand. I’m so grateful to have these guys break it down for me. Keep it up. ❤️

Part of the problem
I would like to like this show, but the hosts make that impossible. Maybe if I ever have enough time I’ll read the transcripts instead of listening. It’s important work they’re doing, and that’s exactly why the world sucks. Because of people like this, you think snarky comments and sarcasm is going to do anything? No. The parasite class will only persevere their ability to sit on their butts and do nothing other than get diabetes, good thing there is ozempic now. Real action requires real people do real things in the physical world. Not sit and talk. These are the enslaved people who want slavery. Freedom can’t be given only taken. And their whole existence is based on this false assumption. Pathetic. Keep being snarky while real people do real work.

Legal podcast?
This is the least legal “legal” podcast I’ve come across. If you’d like to hear hyper-partisan complaining about the legal system, you’ve come to the right place. If you’d like actual treatment of the arguments and theories, look elsewhere.

Solid analysis couched in hilarious irreverence
The hosts do an incredible job of showing of how we’ve gotten to the Supreme Court of today, which consistently protects the powerful against any hint of accountability or checks on power. They demonstrate, through historical decisions and political and social context, what they trajectory has been and is and, most importantly, how the decisions of yesterday and today impact the lives of regular people. Also, their demeanor is absolutely incorrigible, which is the sugar that helps the medicine go down

Rhiannon Ruins It
Michael and Peter seem to genuinely be interested in critical thinking and taking apart cases. Rhiannon comes across as an angry adolescent who does not yet understand that providing evidence is necessary for a well constructed argument. And she giggles in weird, inappropriate moments that make it almost impossible to listen to this show.

For shame.
I'm far too old to not know so much about what is discussed on this show. I'm so thankful for this show, it leads me to study so much.

Thank you for the education and the laughs!
I look forward to listening to 5–4 every week. In such dark times, the hosts can make me laugh but they also make me want to learn more so that I can help make the world a better place as much as I can. Thank you for making legal education entertaining and accessible.

Social media hysteria acting like serious SCOTUS analysis
They have a habit of intentionally misrepresenting, or straight up misunderstanding arguments. They make surface level arguments, and use a lot of words to give you the same level as analysis you would get reading an overzealous and uninformed social media pundits take on SCOTUS rulings. They make bad faith arguments. If you have a need for left wing legal analysis, there are way better podcasts that actually take on the arguments of the other side

Looking for an argument
Came to this podcast looking for a leg to stand regarding SCOTUS cases. I was hoping for meat and potatoes arguments and all I found was a few fruit loops.

Happy and depressed at same time?
This podcast makes we laugh and feel like crying (screaming?) at same time. The only way I can stomach court rulings.

Pathetic, weak
Have you ever heard smart people be absolutely ridiculous about basic things? That’s this podcast. Especially Rihannon. Just bottom of the barrel thinking.

Spirit of the Law
Since the Republican justices wear their Holier Than Thou attitudes the way Cruella de Vil wears her murdered Dalmatian puppies coat, why don’t Liberals expose Originalism as a rigid, mechanistic application of the Constitution that pretends to follow the letter of the law even when it leads to manifestly unjust outcomes? Liberals follow the spirit of the law, take into account how circumstances change and understand that the law must change with them in order to fulfill the requirements of justice, especially when vast swaths of the population (women, slaves, landless men) had no say in crafting these laws. Stick it to these I’m So Christian justices. Point out that their entire legal methodology is an explicit rejection of what they claim to believe. Isn’t the New Testament over and over again people ready to stone a woman to death until Jesus says he who is without sin should cast the first stone? And literally hundreds of examples of following the spirit over the letter of the law? Conservatives constantly brandish Western Civilization and Christianity as a weapon against Liberals. Seize the dagger and turn it against them. The Originalists are modern day Pharisees. They turn their backs on the spirit of the law, no matter how perverse and unjust the outcome. Republicans were able to shove Originalism down our throats because they turned the entire GOP firehose (media, Federalist Society, politicians, pundits) on us, constantly reinforcing one another, all singing from the same hymnal. Flip the script. Even the Republican base doesn’t want unjust outcomes (at least for themselves). If the Republican justices sensed they were crosswise with their base, it would curb their behavior. Push the message relentlessly like the GOP did. Highlight the kinds of letter-rather-than-spirit-of-the-law cases that have screwed over people like them. Remember the white truck driver caught in a snowstorm who left his cab to avoid freezing to death, then got fired for leaving the truck with cargo in it (b/c for GOP judges and business owners, a man’s life is worth less than their precious money)? Talk about that case on Joe Rogan. MAGA probably can’t turn on Trump by this point. They’re in a cult, after all. But they could be turned against the Court so long as you can point to examples of straight white men getting shafted by these ideologues in the Court and Congress. And so long as you can reach them. Pick your best communicator and have them go on every bro-cast. Start now! The sooner you sow the seeds, the quicker you can reap those votes.

Truth and inspiration
This podcast runs me through such a range of emotions, it starts to feel like necessary therapy. While being both reasoned and passionate, they speak the truths that others skirt around – America has become a fascist state, Israel is perpetrating an ongoing brutal genocide, Trans people are people, and, most relevantly, the current Supreme Court does not make judgements based on much more than political pressure and bribery. (In fact, few Supreme Court Justices have ever been high-minded, fair arbiters of justice.) Also, they are all my dear real, actual, totally-not-meta friends.

best podcast ever
I’ve never rated/reviewed a podcast before but this is one of my favorite podcasts of all time!! I’ve learned so much about how the American court system works and, for the first time, feel informed about current legal news. The hosts are all incredibly knowledgeable and manage to strike a balance between serious, sincere, and silly which makes them super entertaining to listen to. Peter especially cracks me up I’m dead every time he comes in with a joke 🥲 thank you guys so much for all you do!

Extraordinarily liberal podcast.
This podcast doesn’t even try to justify its positions. Take it issue on 14th amendment and birthright citizenship. They don’t even make an argument, they just quote and misinterpret the meaning and move on. They perpetuate the fundamental misunderstanding of the 14th amendment and the preceding legislation

Garbage
Thankfully I didn’t have to listen long to hear how ridiculous this drivel is. I will not be listening again.

Leftist
Drops F bombs a lot. Hosts have pent up anxiety in their voices. It is informative but in the hosts opinion, everyone is a victim so that gets old. A lot of very leftist opinions.

It made me so happy that you mentioned the misleading data engineering in Doge Cases! I was in my first DE class during the SQL mess and was losing my gd mind at their inability to even lie correctly. Thank you for the time you put into informing people ❤️

Obsessed with how each episode changes my mind
I’ve now listened to every episode & for the early ones, the premise is stated & everything goes as planned (obviously good arguments against obviously bad rulings) but I really relish the recent episodes when at the start ~deep down~ I think “that ruling was actually reasonable, surely?” And I am (obviously) proven wrong by the end of the episode every time. Side note: Nieves V Bartlett actually HAPPENED to me last year after I embarrassed a cop enough (by asking too many questions during his bogus active shooter ““training””) that one of his buddies was waiting in my workplace parking lot on Monday to ding me for expired taxes on my car. Police retaliation at carnival levels, truly. (Also thanks Rhiannon for ‘ghouls’ as a term for these freaks that we all have to talk about now- I use it constantly… mainly for landlords tbh)

A truly terrible podcast that should rename itself “6 - 3” as elections have consequences and “5 - 4” is so 2018.

One of my faves!
A great leftist podcast that covers many important and lesser known cases while entering in Banter and criticizing the United States criminal justice system and SCOTUS

Can you tolerate screeching? Maybe it’s for you then - For me, 1/5 rating
They’re like fragile children who haven’t gotten their way. The political bias makes it difficult to listen to. I listen to Ezra Klein and a few others from the left, as well as many from the right. This is for the fragile leftist that simply wants to be in their safe space and not learn anything.

Offputting ad
I just heard about this podcast and just turned it on and the first thing I heard was the march on Palestine. I don’t disagree with people being against. He is Israeli aggression Palestine at the March was supposed to be against Trump and everything he’s doing. Advertisement will keep people home. It certainly made me second-guessing. I’m 81 and have arranged everything including my grandchildren dinner so I can go to the March in New York. I cannot get to the Washington, but I think it’s important to emphasize that hands off T musk and Trump on everything and not Just one issue. I could see this ad keeping people home.

The 2nd mum
Stunningly biased
I love political pods from all sides of the spectrum, but this is one that is so low information that they do not have the capability to even understand opposing views. Which makes it useless, unless you’re interested in a “self-pleasuring” sermon to the choir

Fine, I'm subscribing
It was McCutcheon that did it. I really appreciate the insightful analysis of Supreme Court cases, and the fact that they are just as critical of issues with the liberal judges as they are with the sadly extraordinarily corrupt conservative judges.

Great, but with one caveat…
These hosts are brilliant, funny, and affable, but they are REALLY philosemitic. Most of us have Jewish people we know and love, but these guys get really weird about it. It’s just uncomfortable after a point, you know? So bear that in mind.
Max Hume
A wasted opportunity
It must be said, at the very forefront, that this is a deeply anti-Semitic and anti-Jewish and anti-Israel show. They don’t even try to hide it. Beyond their antisemitism, and regarding their legal view; This show is interesting but really could’ve been a lot better. It’s made by people who obviously care a lot about the issues they’re discussing and have a lot of passion. Still, it’s completely biased and heavily one-sided. There’s literally zero attempt to see any issue from any other perspective, of which there are many. it’s actually incredibly cowardly to never have an opposing view on the show. these are supposed to be intelligent people but they’re dangerously narrow minded. When they don’t have a good point to make they just swear a lot and laugh as if that somehow is an argument. It is not. Name calling is not a way to convince people of your arguments. Obviously, the topic of the show is incredibly important for the country and people have a broad range of opinions on it. They should’ve given voice to more than one view. Also, these guys are so woke they don’t realize that they sound ridiculous. history will not be kind to woke nonsense and one day this whole podcast will look about as relevant as bellbottom pants.

Great Post-Trump Analysis
I’ve listened to every episode, some twice, so I definitely owe them a review. During the Biden administration, they shined a light on the most fascist branch of government. Today, they provide better (and more entertaining) analysis than many podcasts because they’re not blindsided by the already weakened state of our democratic processes and civil rights.

Tunnel vision
Usually well-researched, but when the hosts are dug in on a perspective they seem unable to see any holes in their arguments

Money making machine
Use of your passion for rights for a profit🐩 Have less and less actual court talk more like a rant of one pro palestinian who keep calling war in gaza genocite, one dud kinda in the center and one dude just swearing and calling names with out any articulation. Didn’t listen it for a year, decided to give it a try and quit and never will return. Just echo chamber or crying. Most of this podcast listeners do know all of what they are saying and probably listen it as a prayer. It can’t flip anyone opinion to any degree.this country is doomed if this what we got as an opposition to totalitarianism and nationalism in T2.0 administration.

I LOVE 5-4!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m using my mom’s account to do this sorry but I LOVE 5-4!!!!! it makes me happy to hear people analyze the government. my gov teacher doesn’t like it because I brought it up and he got kinda frustrated but I like it so who cares. My point is that 5-4 has helped me realize I’d like to work in government as an IRS or SEC agent !! :)

Smart and informative
This show literally helped me get out of a late night traffic stop that could have led to a bogus DUI. I knew enough about the machinations of cops to refuse the tests and ask for a lawyer, they didn’t want to deal with me so they let me go. I love the civil liberties episodes especially. Thanks for providing the public with this valuable resource.

Lacks all nuance
This podcasts covers important case law but doesn’t attempt to use logic to analyze Supreme Court decisions. It’s delivered with snark and cynicism. They make no attempt to balance what a reasonable search might be… it seems they believe that any search or seizure is inherently unreasonable. But that isn’t how law works. They think police are inherently bad so they should have no ability to enforce laws. It’s infuriating how poor some of their “arguments” are… they complain about bias but are the most biased podcast I’ve ever listened to.

These three have great chemistry, I’ve learned a lot and have been really empowered to annoy my father in law (lawyer). If you enjoy even half their episodes I highly recommend subscribing here or via Patreon (via web browser). I’ve never had to pause an episode of something to laugh before.
