Show notes
Nana Vigilante:Nana Vigilante is the pairing of Lindsay Roser and Julian Saunders. They’re very BNE-centric – Lindsay raps of her fondness for the brown river city quite often. Julian’s production has reflections of 90s Aus hip-hop on some tracks while others have a more industrial noise influence. You can probably guess that they are indeed a hip-hop duo, something you don’t usually see in a Brisbane pub. OPERATION PUT BRISBANE ON THE MAP!Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan.Recorded at The Underdog, 21st February 2014.Curlew:Curlew, a Brisbane based duo that are a bit reminiscent of Gareth Liddiard but some with post-rock undertones and a hint of Mum Smokes. Long songs are their thing, they played only a two-song set at The Waiting Room on February 14. Mark Zian and Callum Wheeler make up the duo. Is it anti-punk or completely punk? It’s hard to say. Mark sings of rats tails and childhood, it sounds a bit like therapy.Recorded & mixed by Joshua Watson.Recorded at The Waiting Room, Feb 14 2014.Snotty Babies:Two dynamic women front Snotty Babies while some fellas back it up. They’re penetrating and dynamic, like their close friends, Housewives. A new generation of Sydney punk has been fermenting over the last few years and it’s only getting more agitated and energetic. Members of the group are also involved with: Mope City, Housewives, Drown Under, Beef Jerk and Julia Why.Recorded & mixed by Luke Walsh.Recorded at The Greenslopes Bowls Club, Feb 22 2014.Thigh Master:Recorded by Joshua Watson & Andrew McLellanMixed by Dusty Anastassiou.Recorded at The Underdog, Feb 8 2014.Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 14 March 2014.Show production and engineering: Joshua Watson.
