Doctors Wendy Dean and Matt Ramsey give us the insider’s view of the U.S. healthcare industry. Emphasis on “industry” not system. As a career doc, I find their podcasts deeply informative and, yet, remarkably entertaining. What a difficult line to walk, and so well done. Grab a coffee and your dog and take this podcast out for a long, “enter-formative” walk. Once home, you’ll be ready to join the health care fray, and your dog—will be ready for a nap.

I found this podcast after Wendy was interviewed in another amazing podcast (The Nocturnist). And since then, I’ve been devouring the library of episodes and sharing with friends, colleagues and patients. It’s long past time we aim our frustrations toward the failures of the system, working towards real improvements and rejecting the isolation we feel from the most common solutions. Good doctors love and deeply care for their patients and no matter how much we work or how efficient we are if we’re trapped in a failing system patients lose and so do we.

For all us docs silently screaming bc we are too afraid to speak up, this podcast gives a credible voice to the crisis within American health(no)care. Wendy and Matt approach difficult topics with humility, humor, and humanity. I applaud their candor and willingness to fight for this most important cause. They give me hope.

Wendy and Matt are touching upon topics that everyone in health care talk about among their colleagues daily but may be too taboo to touch upon beyond their inner circle. Kudos to putting this out to the masses. Hopefully it leads to the changes so desperately needed.

Drs. Dean and Ramsey bring years of medical experience, critical minds and deep dedication to patients to this discussion of what’s really happening in healthcare and how to make things better for patients and those who care for them. They speak with courage and call on listeners to respond. Plus, there’s whisky, swearing, and lots of laughter! A much-needed look into a system that affects us all.

Love how the hosts just get to the heart of the problem, simply (and sometimes hilariously) lay out all the obstacles in healthcare and also how we can solve them. Wendy and Matt are candid, sharp, and very entertaining!

Maybe it’s about how our way of paying for healthcare negatively impacts patients and doctors or maybe it’s about bad management practices. Who knows? The hosts don’t seem inclined to be particularly clear. The fact that they are drinking while talking is clear. The intent of this podcast is less clear.
