Inaccuracy
If you’re going to expose someone or a group, make sure you have reliable sources and an accurate history of the person or group you’re talking about.

Seems hypocritical.
I don’t get this podcast. Here’s some biblical advice on how to live your life, oh but please buy our cigars that will potentially kill you as well. Make it make sense.

Not Safe for Spiritual Abuse Survivors
Updated Review: NO DIFFERENT THAN THE IFB. I am grieved and disheartened that this podcast is no longer a safe space for spiritual abuse survivors. The focus seemed to shift (not in a good way) around the time it became part of the RFP network. The episodes about “biblical counseling” especially were eye-opening. A LOT of problematic beliefs were exposed in those episodes - beliefs exactly like the IFB from which they claim to be so different. They may not have legalistic standards about dress or music, but they hold the same toxic core beliefs. If the hosts read this, I ask you to please - if you actually care about helping hurting people - read The Body Keeps the Score to better understand trauma, as well as Rebecca Davis’s Untwisting Scriptures books and her blog heresthejoy.com for a better understanding of why the counseling you advocate for is so dangerous and actually enables wickedness. Original Review: I was moved by the host’s story when he shared it on another podcast, having experienced something similar. We just discovered this podcast, and I can’t stop listening! The episodes covering the history of the IFB are crucial to understanding the issues we are facing today. A much-needed message; keep up the good work!

Still Don't get it
The beginning of this podcast is really great! The insight into the beginnings of the IFB and Baptist Successionism are superb. Unfortunately, things go downhill... I'm glad they did the episodes on biblical counseling recently. It just makes perfectly clear that they are not safe for survivors of spiritual abuse. They may understand legalism, but they don't understand the deep effects of God and the Bible being used to traumatize people. They are also continuing to perpetuate a lot of harmful IFB theology despite standing against legalism. I'm not sure why - perhaps joining the RFP network has gotten them off on the wrong direction or provided too much external control of their content. Perhaps it's just getting comfortable with familiar teachings without questioning their assumptions enough.

Seriously appreciate Jon and James. This is great content, spiritually uplifting, and Biblically sound. After a lifetime stuck in legalism, it is great to finally be FREE.

Verse by Verse of Galatians
This is something I’ve been trying to find from a trusted source in podcast form. Please please please keep on doing this series! It was insightful and encouraging to hear more about scripture. People’s stories are great, refuting bad theology is important, but just breaking down scripture in a safe environment outside of a church service is needed!

Excellent Work
Jon is doing a great service to the church with this podcast by exposing the depth and reach of abuse within the IFB movement. He speaks with passion that is still filled with grace, and he has a clear burden for those who have been abused. If you are or were in an IFB church then be sure to subscribe.

Love Jon and the Perspective He Brings
Greatly appreciate this podcast and it’s so important - not just for ex-members of the IFB - but for people who are former members of any legalistic or controlling environment.
