Marvel’s Ultron

The character of Ultron first appeared within the pages of Avengers #54 back in 1968. Though he is primarily a foe for the Avengers, Ultron has been the thorn in many a Marvel hero’s side over the years. Probably his most notable factoid is that he’s the first character to rep the mysterious, indestructible Adamantium metal alloy… that’s right, the same stuff Wolverine later made infamous. For Team Diabolical, the comic book iteration of Ultron has always intrigued, mainly due to the social commentary inherent in his existence. Is the world ready for full on A.I? Ultron would have us believe… not so much. If you’ve watched the film and want to explore the character a bit more, hit the links below for Ultron’s greatest comic story arcs. Enjoy!

The Carbon-Freeze Scene (The Empire Strikes Back)

It’s safe to say Team Diabolical is all about atmosphere and the Carbon-Freeze Chamber scene from The Empire Strikes Back delivers in spades. The reds, the blues, the orange lighting from the floor…and we haven’t even talked about the cast of characters and drama that takes place within. Whether it’s the original gravely voice of Boba Fett or Harrison Ford’s immortal ad-lib “I know,” the Carbon Chamber proves an integral location to any sci-fi fan’s psyche… that is, of course, if you survive the freezing process.

This Week’s Dope

Chuck’s Dope

Alcatraz – This last week I had the pleasure of visiting Alcatraz up in San Francisco as I embarked on their walking audio tour of the cellblock area. Not only was the tour chalk full of history and intrigue, but the sound drops looped in during your journey through the famed prison were nothing short of amazing. The whole experience served to adjust your mind to what life on the Rock might have felt like. For my scrupulous mind, it was a sheer exercise in dope. I can’t recommend the tour any higher – if it’s within your means, definitely check it out.

GI JOBURG – The squad of GI Joburg, Stephen, Rob, “Deadly Pencils” (a.k.a Paul) and I begin the dance of death over which GI Joe box art will survive our scrutiny.  A sprawling podcast loaded w/ Joe insight and wit- should find any true believers ears. I enjoy this podcast whilst driving or an evening walk.  http://gijoburg.podbean.com/e/gi-joburg-episode-50/

The Smith Signal – A signal that found me from Chester, Britain; Two brothers in a casual flow, loosely topical, Sci-fi for days. I usually digest the signal during the perfunctory grind. https://soundcloud.com/the-smith-signal
