For everyone
Beautiful experience of learning and being inspired by the music of Bach. It is such a deep and meaningful compilation explaining the unexplainable Goldberg Variations from various points of views from different walks of life. This is for everyone who loves music.

A great listen
Mr. Lowry has revived for me a piece of music that had been overplayed and gone stale. I enjoyed hearing all the different perspectives and being introduced to new performers (Simone Dinnerstein is a revelation). I enjoyed the historical anecdotes about Bach's life and appreciated the explanations of how music theory supports the work. Well done!

30 Bach is great!
I love Bach, and this podcast has revealed new dimensions to both that I didn't really grasp before. I love hearing the stories behind the music.
Learning the rules of counterpoint deepened my understanding and appreciation of music generally, and learning the stories of Bach and the people who play his music today has added color and depth in really lovely ways. The interplay of happiness and sadness, consonance and dissonance, and learning to better balance those feelings.
30 Bach is a real gift!

Fantastic
Beautifully produced, with a superb and diverse selection of musical artists. A charming and disarming narrator that made this non-musician enthusiast fascinated but not intimidated. Bravo!

Fascinating
What a terrific, smart, introduction to, and appreciation of, the Goldberg — and music itself. Open-minded and mind-opening. Thank you!

I love this Podcast!
This podcast is possibly one of the best I’ve ever heard. Lowry has brought me to the Goldberg's in a beautiful way. I always look forward to the car rides with my father and mother to listen to this. I have listened to it many many times and I’ve never gotten old of it. Likable guests and a great host. Great Podcast

I love this.
For years I have listened to the famous Glenn Gould recording without having any knowledge of the background of the masterpiece. Lowry has educated me. Not only is his personal insight refreshing but the balance of interviewing other musicians makes it, dare I say it, fun.
For those wanting to dip their toes into the waters of classical music: jump in!
For those who are already knowledgeable in classical music: you will learn much and have a good time.
For everyone: enjoy.
Thank you Lowry.

Captivating
Even for people like me who love music (mostly Jazz) but have a very limited understanding and appreciation of classical, this podcast really opened the doors and held me captive with explanations and history of the fantastic music of Bach. With thoughtful insights by Lowry, as well as the interviews of amazing musicians, he inspired me to listen and understand the Goldberg Variations, music that I had never heard of before. To keep me, a classical music novice, interested through all the episodes, is pretty impressive.

Beautiful mix of knowledge, ideas, and love for music.
This wonderful show is an argument for podcasting— Personal, passionate and persuasive. Lowry unpacks this great piece with such caring and delicate precision. I know very little about the structure and playing of music, and therefore, fail to appreciate all of the intricacies of what is discussed. But even for a novice, there is much to take home in this delightful package.

During the darkest hours
Every time I listen to the Goldbergs, the Aria brings tears to my eyes. Even during the darkest hours of my soul, Bach comes to the rescue. And this wonderful podcast has revealed a side of the Goldberg I knew not.
Thank you so much for “The 32” in such innovative way.

“The Farthest Possible Place”
I’m hard-pressed to do justice to the podcast that Lowry Yankwich has put together on Bach's Goldberg Variations. Lowry is a natural teacher who never speaks down to his listeners, but whose love for the music and the perspectives of his musical guests and Bach devotees, and his desire to explore every corner of the variations, take him to places of poetry, where we are privileged to follow.
And few places are as beautiful or full of melancholy as variation 25, or, as Lowry calls it, “the dark center of the Goldberg Variations… the midnight song to which the work has gradually been building,” and the focus of this 12th episode.
Through Lowry, and the brilliant musicians with whom Lowry engages, we learn about terms like “chromaticism,” which Lowry likens here to “this sense of slinking downward, one step at a time, in the smallest increment possible…like you’re trying to hold your place but something is slowly pushing you into the ground.”
Lowry recounts the losses that Bach himself endured, adding, “maybe because he suffered so much pain himself, his music speaks to the pain of others and comforts those who are grieving.”
Indeed there is comfort - and a “speaking to” that this variation delivers, especially this past year in some of the bleakest days of the pandemic, says pianist Jeremy Denk, who exquisitely performs the variation in this episode.
And by creating a sort of refuge of understanding, we learn how variation 25 has connected people from different backgrounds and ways of thinking, uniting them in their love for this music. Perhaps a small elixir for these dark and polarized times.

Never too late
I waited 75 years to discover these 32 pieces of perfection. My wife read a timely NYT review of Lang Lang’s release last fall. Since then we listen daily. Mr. Lowry ‘s podcast adds notes to increase our appreciation. Thank you for this fine work.
