3 Things to Change Your Week

3 THINGS TO CHANGE YOUR WEEK is about change. And every week Ellen Sherman and Cynthia Adler will pass on three things that could change your week. It could be a news story that could change the way you think about bad breakups. Or a bingeworthy TV series you’ve never heard of. Or there's a segment called ” What Are You Going to Be When you Grow Up” which is about people doing a 180 and reinventing their lives. Every week we’re going to share what’s changing our lives and maybe it’ll change yours.
Episode 22- Hijack, La Reina del Sur, The Norsemen
La Reyna del Sur ( Queen of the South) - In this Mexican action drama, a poor but gorgeous young woman falls in love with the wrong guy and winds up running from a drug cartel. Then using her wits, she becomes the head of her own drug cartel. Lots of over-the-top violence, treachery, romance and some gorgeous costuming. It’s a tele-novella with great production values.Hijack-In a word. Idris Elba. He plays a tough successful business ‘fixer’ type who’s on a plane hijacked by a determined gang of lackeys for 2 imprisoned gang lords. At stake? Freeing the gang lords while tumbling Britain’s financial market.  The Norsemen- Think a witty mocumentary look at a grubby 8th century Viking village. However, these tough warrior types tackle the day-to-day struggles of clan politics, romantic rivalries, and slave management with very 21st century style. There are malcontent slaves who go on strike and a chieftain’s pretentious brother who insists on creating an art installation using up the armaments of the entire village. It’s a Monty python-esque take on a culture whose idea of entertainment is pillaging their neighbors.

Relationship specialist Brenda Lewis is back to give some perspective on what to look for even if you don't have an enforced month to spend with a perspective partner. And former Hollywood  screenwriter/playwright turned rabbi, Susan Nanus, tells us how a series of part-time jobs helped her turn a life-long avocation into a job she never thought she'd have.

Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes...
In this new year’s edition of 3 Things to Change Your Week, Ellen Sherman and Cynthia Adler celebrate "reinvention,”  a concept that can be both constructive and, in one recent instance, even questionable. Not long ago a scandal erupted at a Saudi Arabian camel beauty contest when handlers decided to “ augment” their camel’s appearance in ways no one could have imagined. Cynthia and Ellen take on the ramifications. This edition’s special guest is career transition coach, John Tarnoff. Over the span of his professional life, John has been both a successful film executive and tech entrepreneur. Yet, as he jokingly has reminded TED talk audiences and future clients, even after working in the highest echelons of his profession, he has still been fired from 39 ½% of all the jobs he’d ever had.John knows plenty about reinvention.Which is why at 50 he left his comfort zone, went back for a Masters and became a career coach specializing in helping other Baby Boomers find their second acts. In this podcast, he gives valuable insights on everything from how to take the first steps in finding new career paths to ways to defy ageism. There are essential tips on creating the best LinkedIn profile as well as understanding why sending out resumes is probably a waste of time. And what you should do instead. To buy his book "Boomer Reinvention", click here.

3 THINGS TO CHANGE YOUR WEEK-#2
Ellen Sherman and Cynthia Adler are excited to send off another 3 THINGS TO CHANGE YOUR WEEK.The second installment of “What do you Want to be When you Grow Up” finds an unlikely career switch in Georgia. Ever have friends tell you you’re really funny? People told that to Patricia Forehand, a 32-year veteran elementary school teacher all the time. Then one day at an open mike night, a group of friends dared her to go on stage. No one could have expected what followed. Suffice it to say Patty has found a carer she thought was totally out of reach. “Out of reach” could also describe finding the relationship you want. It’s the Holy Grail….much discussed and rarely attainable. But one psychologist  provides her unique insight into how you can get what you want. Looking for something that’s both a provocative and sexy thriller with a dash of the supernatural? Cynthia and Ellen review the British psychological drama BEHIND HER EYES which answers the unusual question, ‘How dangerous an idea is it to befriend your married lover’s gorgeous wife?” Spoiler alert…really dangerous.

3 Things to Change Your Week-Inaugural edition
Comedian George Carlin once said, “ Just when I discovered the meaning of life… they changed it.” Change is inevitable. Until the past year when — like everyone else Cynthia Adler and Ellen Sherman found each day looking very much like the one before. So they started looking for something…well almost anything…to change things up. And that’s what “ 3 Things to Change Your Week “is about. Change. It used to be that by 50 you’d better have had everything figured out. What you wanted to do, who you were going to be with, and yes, of course, the meaning of life. But 2021 is a time when not only is there a Second Act to many lives, there’s now a Third Act as well. There’s an appetite for keeping things fresh. For trying something new. Change is what energizes us. “And changing things up is just where we’re going,” says Cynthia Adler. It could be a news story that puts a unique spin on the way you think about bad breakups. Or offers a new idea about how parents and grown children are solving their housing dilemmas. The segment, “What are You Going to be When you Grow Up?” features people doing a “180” and reinventing their careers after 50. “I, for one…“ Ellen Sherman adds, “…am still not sure what I’m going to be.”In this episode, Cynthia and Ellen interview Gail Bruce, founder of Hipsilver, a community eager to investigate new approaches to a fulfilling life.
