10 episodes in and I’m done
There are two hosts - one of them is so awful he’s put me off the podcast.
He constantly makes hostile and abusive comments about anyone who doesn’t want to play the same game as him the way he plays it.
He insists that if you change a game in any way you’re not playing that game any more, then insists that people should only play VtM with the subset of rules he chooses along with some more rules that only seem to live in his head. Then, totally oblivious to his own hypocrisy he goes back to being abusive about people who play other games or who change them.
His commentary on going to Goth clubs - in real life - to pick up women for sex and hating that they had the temerity to want to decide what name they used for themselves was… pretty nauseating. Particularly from a guy who goes by “Bob” which isn’t the name his momma gave him.

Holy Crap! Croatan Review was Amazing
I’m still listening to it but my God man, this is probably the most intense and in-depth discussion of RPG lore I’ve ever heard and I only pray there’s more of this in your catalog. Looking at this as a tribute to the native Americans while keeping it separate says so much. Keep the woke reaction at bay because the point is just read and understand the tribute that this is. WELL DONE GUYS!

Very Conflicted
I was a huge fan of this podcast for about a year. Was even going to join the Patreon and play in their online game. I really appreciated the nuanced discussions and varied perspectives. I still go back and listen to older episodes.
Then there was a weird split between hosts, and the show seemed to lose something. I didn’t know what happened but I stuck with it for a while, until I stumbled on a few posts outlining the behaviors in the Patreon online game. I can take bad stuff happening “in game,” but what was described (and apparently verified by ex ST’s) was abusive and manipulative behavior outside of the game by individuals running this podcast. A quick google search should take you to the posts in question.
Just be aware before jumping in.

The Old Guard Always Hates the New
I am new to the world in darkness. I never played vampire before version five. I have all of the version five books and I love it. This should be a great time to be a world of darkness enthusiast, because we’ve got lots of new content coming, and lots of new people are jumping in like I did just a couple years ago. Sadly, the message from the “25 years“ crew is that I missed the boat. The new content is largely terrible, and I should’ve simply played older versions. Increasingly, the tone of this podcast has become negative. The negativities seems to extend not just to the material, but also to the people who see things differently than Bob sees them.
Bob’s style is hard to listen to. He has a pattern of talking for five minutes, then asking one of his colleagues a trick/trap question, and then condescending to them as he tells them why they’re wrong. The value proposition has made this increasingly leas tolerable as time has gone on.

Great podcast. Get rid of Bob though,
This is probably the best WoD podcasts out there. However, Bob is very grating to listen to. Constantly interrupts, only cares about his opinion, very pretentious and completely self absorbed and selfish. He’s the worst kind of podcast host and the show would be 1000% better without him. I tend to fast forward when he starts talking and it makes it much more listenable.
He reminds me of Bryan Callen, same attitude and demeanor. Always has to have the last word in and is the toughest guy in the room.

Perfect for Night Trucking
I’m an overnight truck driver and recently found this gem and listen to these guys about eight hours a night and it doesn’t get old. I’ve been a storyteller for over twenty years but I am constantly learning new things as well as just enjoying the team break down storytelling, player tips, and depth of material across the scope of Vampire. I’m only forty episodes in but loving this and you may as well. Keep it up guys

Glad they’re here
Good review podcast, especially with the multitude of voices. Would be better if Bob interrupted/corrected/talked less and justified less violence. Miss Nate.

Extremely solid podcast
Nate and Bob’s backlog of over 100+ episodes has been an invaluable resource over the past few years, as it pertains to Vampire the Masquerade knowledge. Recently, the format has changed to more of a larger group of reviewers, which i personally find to be a few too many cooks in the kitchen. Since Nate has departed from the show, there have been a few episodes with Bob and 1 specific co-host, and i generally find those episodes more entertaining than the ones with 5 folks discussing specific aspects of the book of the week. I feel like we sort of lose the benefit of Bob’s knowledge when he’s stuck spending most of the airtime moderating discussion rather than being a more active participant. Despite my criticism of the new format, i still think it’s a fantastic podcast for getting information about Vampire the Masquerade, and the World of Darkness as a whole.

Hands down: The Best Vampire: The Masquerade Podcast Out There
Nate and Bob are fantastic at not only exploring the lore and mechanics of this game, but also in making it approachable for new players. The two of them have a wonderful report and their love of the World of Darkness bleeds through.

The best Vampire the Masquerade podcast in the world
The 25 years of Vampire the Masquerade podcast is an excellent podcast for fans of the tabletop RPG. The hosts Bob and Nate definitely know what they are talking about and provide excellent advice on how to best run this game. Their book reviews are spot on, and their love of the material is evident. I recommend this podcast to anyone who plays this game. The only downside is the community that comes with becoming a patreon and playing in the ongoing online game Curse of Caine. Just like any online community, there are bad apples that make the experience painful. Don't get me wrong, Bob is a world-class storyteller, and you will learn much from the experience of playing with him, but it's not worth dealing with some members of the community. My recommendation is to listen to this podcast, become a patreon for the exclusive material that will truly help you improve your skills as a storyteller, but stay away from the Curse of Caine because there are those that feel it belongs to them and new people aren't welcome.

Great Podcast for Those New to World of Darkness!
Bob and Nate are highly knowledgable about Vampire the Masquerade and have been playing it for many years....this retrospective is incredibly helpful to this first time Storyteller and player in Vampire and really helped me narrow down which books were 100% necessary to really get into the setting, game, and mechanics. Also, these guys have a great radio chemistry together, they have been roommates and friends for many years and it shows. Great production quality and they are also very honest when they don't like things White Wolf has done, which makes me trust their opinion even more. Look foreward to exploring Dark Ages Vampire with them as they start the next chapter in their retrospective.

VtM - life changing
Really like the job Nate and Bob are doing with the review. I don’t agree with all of their opinions but, I do enjoy the banter. Great job looking at the evolution of the game as well. I was a hard core D&D player in 1992 and when forced to play the game by my group. I fell totally in love with the Storyteller system. This brings back a ton of great memories of playing Vampire over the years.

Chicago for the Win!
When I was asked to recommend a book for a new player. I thought," look no further then this episode." Their review of Chicago by Night was thoroughly executed as a deep dive into the world of the Camarilla. Thank you guys. Great job.

Invaluable and indispensable podcast!
When I started playing VtM a year ago I immediately searched out podcasts to listen to get up to speed as quickly as possible and 25 Years of Vampire: The Masquerade-A Retrospective became indispensable. Bob and Nate's knowledge of VtM is encyclopedic and goes back decades. I've learned an amazing amount of information about VtM and ways to approach the game and my character. If you're new to VtM or a seasoned player, you will find every single episode invaluable.

A thorough and comprehensive look at Vampire: The Masquerade and the books full of content that drove this RPG to so much success. These guys are pros and are encyclopedias of Vampiric knowledge. I’m currently on the Sabbat episode and it’s fantastic.

Well done! An excellent unbiased view an occult that may have been responsible for saving gaming as "we" know it. I was there at Gencon collecting my cheap plastic teeth and crummy ten siders from gothic youth peddling this storied game. It was a concept new to most but for us veterans, D&D players, whom had moved on to Role Master, GURPS, and other more complicated and open forumed RPG, had been playing this way for years. I started in my troupe in 1980. And quickly realized running my own world was like authoring a novel my player characters would help write.
You have excelled at targeting the artery of why I some 30+years later still play and run a campaign.
I was offered some years ago a chance to contribute to the White Wolf, as a writer, but did not like the idea of being told themes.
Looking foreword to listening to balance of podcast, and a melodic voice indeed you have Neal.

Keep It Up
Love this podcast! I've been playing WW games since '94 and always loved VtM (started with pen and paper and briefly played Mind's Eye). I've listened to 8 hours of pods over the last 3 days. This stuff is great! You guys do a great job setting the context for each book and bringing a great perspective to the content!

For the love of Nod
Amazing podcast gentleman! Brings back so many wonderful memories of the mid to late 90s I find it a little hard to believe that it's been 25 years keep up the great work and if I had only one criticism it would be this... for the love of Nod, please find a troop and create a real play podcast I would love to hear that chronicle

Who else is doing this?
Highly specialized niche of a podcast, that makes you dig out your old books. You may not agree with the viewpoints or pronunciations of the hosts, but you've got to respect their love for the old game.

Phenomenal Podcast
Great podcast that not only meets expectations but exceeds them! The Bangor between hosts is awesome, and both the player- and ST-focused perspectives lend a lot to the show. Has reignited my love of the game, and I look forward to starting a new chronicle soon.
Keep up the great work, gents...

Fantastic Retrospective
I rarely go back and listen to podcasts a second time but this one is so full of great content that it deserves a second listen just to take it all in. Great job guys!

Yes finally!
I really enjoy playing VtM, and I got to say I was excited to see someone take the initiative to make this into a podcast. I've enjoyed the first few episodes plan to keep listening. Thanks so much guys for putting this together.
I only constructive feedback is don't spend so much time on the books you don't like. If the book sucked in the first place, the episode will probably end up sucking too.
Otherwise it's been super fun to listen to you talk about my favorite RPG.
