In her twenties Amy Downs was living what she called a complacent, shallow existence. She had flunked out of college and was sleeping on the floor of her sister's house. She felt empty and alone. When she discovered the man she married couldn’t fix her life, she coped by eating. It wasn’t until tragedy struck on April 19, 1995, that she turned her life around.
