I was on form today with all these tips.
hello sewers and crafters and seamstresses and whoever else and whatever else i don't know what's brought you here but i've got a little tip today and it's such a good one if at all you can follow it and i'm a musician so i say this to my students as well keep your instruments out now i know that's not practical if you're uh you know if you've got kids you can't leave your sewing machine out and all the pins and the needles but the problem with putting everything away is it creates a mental block so you can't be bothered to get it out and this happens over and over again doesn't it we're all the same human beings are all the same it's a drama it's not that
you're lazy as such or me i i mean i do this it's not so much being lazy it's the drama of it the it's annoying so it's not the energy it's the annoyingness of it and putting something out getting you know going to going into the storage cupboard yanking something out stuff falls down um the you've got to clear the table you know get all the crumbs off it or whatever we've got dust things down open packets do this do this it's all annoying and what i've really noticed it this week because my cello goes in a stand i have this stand for it and i've been putting the
cello away instead of leaving it out and it's quite it's a simple enough uh stand but if unless i've got my glasses on i can't fit the spoke through the hole and it's infuriating so i avoid doing it so something in my head is saying to me i can't be positive to get it out it's too much of a drama because i can't be bothered to put it back in again to see anyway since i've had my cello out i mean i am doing a lot more broadcasting actually so it's to do with that as well but now just leave it out and i'm much more prone to as i pass it by all the kettles on whatever just have a little practice same with my piano you know leave the lid up if you start closing things the procedural aspect of preparation will get in the way of the act of doing now i've set up my
sewing room you probably know if you're a seamstress and that's why you're on these podcasts and it's so much better last night i was mooching about i think i put some fish fingers in the microwave or something and i thought oh i'll just i just quickly sew something and it was so convenient because my kitchen is sort of next to the sewing room well it's open plan so this sort of part and parcel of the same thing i've sectioned them off actually some other tips i've sectioned them off with saris and the reason i've done that is so that the dust and debris from one area can't pollute the other area do you see because you don't want cooking spills anywhere near your fabrics but it's a really big expanse of room where my fabrics are but that separation really just helps that little bit and but it doesn't create another room that you have to go into but if you've got another room i'd i'd say leave everything out unless you're not going to work on something for a matter of weeks where things can get dusty but if it's overnight just leave it all out it's an it's just so much easier so i bought this table and it's about eight foot long and i have everything i need within eyesight so the other thing is another tip actually i eat yogurt i know these big pots of yogurt and i've started saving them and i can put you know red cottons in one bobbins red already already threaded up red bobbins and
threads in one and maybe some little red um you know jewels or buttons or you know that could be the red one and then a green and a black and so it goes on it's so much more accessible and useful you literally walk in i mean last night it took me two minutes to sew the bra hooks onto the latest bra literally everything was set up for me i didn't have to thread bobbins i didn't have to turn the machine on i did i mean i did i have to plug it i had to plug it in i think that was...
