good morning internet welcome to royal clearance marina now i don't know about you but i've become completely and utterly obsessed with the news and this awful awful situation in ukraine and now you know children dying and um the rubble and the you know the destruction of beautiful environments and cities as an artist this is it's all terribly upsetting and i think all artists are very empathetic even the ones amongst us who are um you know a bit off the wall or uh perceived perhaps as as being on the spectrum uh i think artists by nature are musicians and including musicians in that i think artists and musicians are totally empathetic and to to
watch the destruction and the murder of people is becomes part of your um your daily routine you know i have the news on all the time um even when i'm practicing my cello now i have the news on in the background not the volume but you know on sky you can see the uh i always watch sky news now i prefer sky news to the bbc the bbc is um very um is very one-sided actually there's also um uh very what's the word cheesy it's cheesy the bbc whereas sky news seems to be much uh more um common sense based and uh rather than overly emotional let's not say they're not showing emotional um reporters of course they are um you know yesterday we had a reporter crying um i mean just awful to to watch this daily destruction and not to be able to do anything about it and i'm looking at a map now and and you know they've
completely surrounded the east of ukraine and i was watching this morning actually about um the reasoning that ukraine has been invaded two or three four times before napoleon invaded um the germans uh another russians and it's a very flat ground and it's the flat ground between europe and russia and therefore it's to them it's very important but it's also where the russians um come from originally that doesn't mean to say they should go and take it back now it's now you know we've moved on in a thousand years of course we have um so very very interesting to watch sky news you know you get all this information um i was also
listening well i follow somebody on twitter called the stats man or the stats guy i think and he was saying that um the russian population they have a glut of young men uh 18 to 27 i think and that the they have conscription um and putin's old relatively 70 i think and it won't be the first time you know that an old government an old man the head of government and a bunch of old men uh on the on the um in the cabinet or whatever the equivalent is overseas have sent young men to young men rather to their deaths it isn't the first time you know it and you start to think you start thinking why are old men why are they doing that you know are the
young men a threat to them um and you know i think we need to look at these sort of things of course young men are a threat to old men of course they are and that you know the jealous of the youth rising the youth taking the women you know women that perhaps could go for them you know ultimately i mean this is getting it down to really basic sort of um male psychology
but i think we need to look at that um and learn from from that uh because it keeps happening it keeps happening what's the what's behind making young virile men sign up to a war that they haven't created what's behind that what's the psychology behind that i mean it's obscene isn't it it's totally obscene um so yes i see the you know on sky you have the headlines going along the bottom and you can sort of keep an eye on things because i feel like if i turn the tv off i'll miss something really really important um there is this sort of human uh interest element isn't there in sort of tragedy and what have you and the horror we become we sort of become obsessed with it but it's much more than that isn't it when it's you know when you feel so
helpless and you just simply don't know what to do um i...
