Dr. Wayne Tymchuk is the Chief for the Division of Cardiology at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. He is a Critical Care, Interventional and Transplant Cardiologist. His area of specialty in the MAZ is the cardiac catheterization lab, also known as a “cardiac cath lab,” a special hospital room where doctors perform minimally invasive tests and procedures to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease. Cardiologists at the MAZ perform about 5000 cases per year in the cath labs. Procedures done in the cath labs are particularly important for cardiac patients who are too frail to survive traditional open heart surgery.
