Gather round Nation, hear ye my tale

Pull up a barstool, get a flagon of ale

When the night grows dark and fear's all around

Where is a beacon of hope to be found?

It won't be politicians with their greed and corruption

Nor in Hollywood with its lustful seduction

The world needs a warrior who seeks only the truth

Who loves long-reads and a stiff 80 proof

They're the ones who will keep you in the loop

With the hard-hitting stories and the latest hot scoop

Their names you will find within yellowing pages

Who disseminate wisdom of scholars and sages

With a jaunty fedora and a sly, scampish look

With a pint in the hand and a Moleskine notebook

A small tape recorder for that loathsome transcribing

Consoling themselves with frequent imbibing

So let's raise a toast, but please don't forget
