a (NIV) – But you are a chosen people…
a, 6 (NLT) – You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple….As the Scriptures say, “I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”
a (NIV) – But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession…
(NLT) – “Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.”
(NLT) – So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe.
(NLT) – At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart.
-22 (NLT) – And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20 By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21 And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, 22 let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.
a (NLT) – God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy.

Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.
(NIV) – live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.
(NLT) – You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.
-34 (NLT) – Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.

Why was the curtain torn in two? Because we no longer needed a priest to access God’s presence for us. Jesus is our High Priest, and Jesus’ death meant that ALL PEOPLE could now enter into the presence of God.
