College Football will, at some point, expand its playoff system. The Athletic released a report last year claiming top administrators are already pushing to expand the playoff from four to eight teams. That's good news for teams in the Group of 5 conferences, like UCF, Boise State and Memphis, who have not and never will have a chance to win a national title under the current format. 

But while eventual expansion will be good for the bottom line, it will also dilute the brilliance that is college football's regular season.
