Without God, we are completely helpless and can do nothing of any eternal value. We need God to open our minds to understanding His Word, and open our hearts to receive the saving work of Jesus and so the Holy Spirit can indwell in us. But while God does all of the heavy lifting, that doesn't mean that we don't have a part to play in our sanctification.
