Liz and Jesse are joined by Julia Brownlie, a Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency & Trauma Centre at RBWH. Julia has a special interest in women’s health and helps us navigate through some considerations in navigating challenging and uncomfortable conversations, particularly with relation to women’s health issues.
Julia’s Five Things:
- There are a series of topics clinicians struggle to talk about, particularly with gendered issues.
- Avoiding placing our lived experience onto how we care for and discuss issues with patients.
- Acknowledging and validating the impact of what is happening for the patient.
- Be compassionate and consider the trauma or suffering that may come with this patient to where they are today.
- Listen, listen, listen.
