"Born (1958) and raised in Tampa FL, I grew up in a time when no one gave a second thought to what we now recognize as child abuse. I overcame it all through the constant companionship and mentoring of my inner guide whom I call “Michael.” I’ve always loved writing (and reading) and science, and I used them (and animals) to distract myself from the world. In 1978 I suffered a severe head trauma in a freak accident with horses and had an NDE that changed my perspectives on everything. The world wasn’t ready to talk/hear about NDEs at the time, and so I kept it to myself. It took eighteen months for my ability to learn new things to recover. I returned to college, changed my major from Biology to Psychology and earned my BA in Psychology in two years.
Against Michael’s advice, I married the first time in 1989, having asked Michael to “Let me be.” He obliged and fell silent, only popping into awareness when I was in imminent danger. In 1991, I returned to college. I’d nearly finished another BA in Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences with a focus on Biology when I began writing CHALICE in 1995. It would be more correct to say writing commandeered my life—and it changed everything again. I’d just come home from taking my last finals for the semester when Michael pressed into awareness with a massive burst of Kundalini chi flows and told me to “Boot up the word processor,” adding, “I have a story to tell you. I promise it will be a great adventure.” For the next six months I did little but SCUBA dive and write, and Michael was again resoundingly present. Threatened by my focus and deep enjoyment of writing, my husband acted out by being unfaithful. We divorced and I moved to Washington State in 1999 where I lived for 9 years during which time my little sister, mother, step mother and father all died.
I moved then back to North Florida where I became officially disabled because of an accident at work in 2015. Trying to repurpose my life, I began again working on CHALICE (and its sequels). I still live in North Florida on a small farm where I raise an endangered species of peacocks, write, and query literary agents. As I have always looked for the blessed outcome to redeem every challenging event in my life, I’m more certain than ever that CHALICE deserves an agent and traditional publication—rather than going indie. I’d be pleased to reframe my entire life as lead-up to that outcome and to bringing CHALICE’s unique perspective to the world. After all, I died in 1978 and came back to do just that."
