It is a poem about love and lost . It's about a girl who is waiting eagerly for her loved one to come back who has left her . She is conscious that he won't come back but yet a part of her is not willing to believe it . The highway here signifies the difference episodes in her life and if ever he comes back she is take him through all the episodes in her life after he left .
