Laura Benedek, Lucas Contreras and Sergiu Bivol, the core members of our invited podcast guest 7th SENSE, sit down to talk with creative director Beatrice Benedek, about their music, their creative journeys, and their aspirations within the Romanian contemporary jazz scene.
The band enjoys great success since it was founded in 2019. They’ve performed in various Romanian venues and big-name Romanian festivals, such as JazzTm Festival (2021), Euroradio Jazz Competition Bucharest (2020), Green Hours JAZZ Fest (2019), Art in the Street Cluj-Napoca (2019), this summer honouring the national and international public of Cluj with their appearance at Jazz in the Park Festival, Cluj-Napoca. For their original and fresh tunes they’ve been awarded the “Best Band Award” at Sibiu Jazz Competition in 2021.
2022 sees 7th SENSE releasing their debut album, “Light in Chaos” which contains original compositions and featured a number of special national and international musicians & guests, such as Will Fry, Liam Shortall, Ioana Șelaru, Luiza Zan, Alex Arcuș, Miruna Maria, Victor Sandu and Ilinca Aurora Goța.
7th Sense is also known to organise projects that aim to bring artist together, solidifying the jazz community in Romania. In line with this vision, they’ve launched a special project in collaboration with the prestigious event venue Club Control in Bucharest - “Jazzunit” is a project that encourages the regular public to engage and appreciate what jazz has to offer, as well as creating a safe and stimulating place for artists to come and jam together.
