The Munich Agreement of 1938 was an international diplomatic settlement between Germany, Great Britain, France, and Italy. It resulted in the appeasement of Nazi Germany's annexation of Czechoslovakia's Sudetenland region, in exchange for a promise from Adolf Hitler not to pursue any further territorial expansion in Europe. The agreement is considered a pivotal moment in European history and a significant precursor to the outbreak of World War II.
