The Marshall Plan was a major initiative undertaken by the United States in the aftermath of World War II to assist the reconstruction of Western Europe and promote economic recovery. The plan was named after its principal architect, U.S. Secretary of State George Marshall, and was officially known as the European Recovery Program (ERP).
