A WordPress theme is a collection of files that work together to produce a graphical interface with an underlying unifying design for a website or blog. These files are called template files. A Theme modifies the way the site is displayed, without modifying the underlying software that is WordPress.
Make More With WordPress in the Themes Niche
- Service for Clients
- Create a theme that meets the needs of a specific client.
- Make modifications to an existing theme to create a unique theme designed for a specific client need.
- Product for Sale
- You will be creating yourself some work.
- Premium WordPress themes are paid themes that typically come with regular updates and support.
- People expect updates. Updates show that the product is still actively being developed and is not abandoned.
- You’ll need a stand alone testing environment – the theme needs to work for ANYone on ANY type of hosting environment.
- Import the theme unit test file to put the theme through all the crazy stuff people are going to try to do with your theme and have it still the theme work ideally.
- WP Repository
- WordPress follows a specific process that you must meet before your theme can be made available for others to use.
- Your theme will immediately put you and your work in front of a lot of people – potentially for all services, not just your themes.
- Like plugins in the repository you’ll attract two types of people:
- People that are looking for support that they expect for free.
- People that are looking to hire you to customize the theme to meet a specific need.
- Your free theme can help you develop additional premium themes, or even premium child themes, that you can offer as products.
