In the third part of a mini-series titled 'The Art of the Possible', I speak to Carne Ross, independent diplomat.

Carne talks us through his high-flying career in the UK's Foreign Office and the pivotal role he played, at the United Nations Security Council in New York, in creating the political landscape which led to the military invasion of Iraq in 2003.

He then talks about the moral and ethical crisis he suffered as a result of the realisation that it had all been based upon lies; and his ongoing experience that what the government said it was doing in countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan was at odds with the reality of what they were actually doing on the ground.

Having made the leap to leave the Foreign Office, Carne then worked as a diplomatic consultant to the Kosovan government before founding 'Independent Diplomat', the world's first independent diplomatic service, representing the peoples and regions of the world who were being ignored & overlooked in the global political arena.
