Not only is it the location of Washington's historical farewell speech after Evacuation Day, Fraunces Tavern's significance pre-dates the Revolutionary War. Before the United States existed, this tavern was already standing. It became a gathering place for merchants, patriots, and political thinkers conceiving evolutionary ideas.
