A melancholic pall hangs over the studio.  Dan is left brokenhearted after the woman he loves leaves him. Apropos of the podcast--she explicitly does so because of his career.  Any naiveté remaining about the reality of a receptionist lifestyle is shattered. John alternates between genuine concern for his friend, and an overwhelming panic that leaves him viewing the event in terms of the implications to his own life.  So they talk about it, and make jokes about it, because that's. what. they. fucking. do.
