Behaviour & Streaks

What is a habit?

"An impulse to act on a behavior with little or no conscious thought"

- Nir Eyal

How long does it take?

The European Journal of Social Psychology believes that it takes

"18 to 254 days for a person to form a new habit… 66 days (on average) for a new behavior to become automatic."

While other studies argue that a behaviour is habitual once it has been

"performed frequently (at least twice a month) and extensively (at least 10 times)".

Meanwhile others follow the 21/90 rule claiming that it takes:

"21 days to make a habit and 90 days to make it a permanent lifestyle change".

Honestly, it's all too complicated…
