Six-year-old Ljubica Topic was snatched in May 1971 as she played outside her Windsor home. Police discovered her lifeless remains — face and body covered in blood — early the next morning.

It is a case that left a cloud over the southern Ontario city for decades.

Nearly 50 years later, police say they have solved the case.
