In any given year, one in five Canadians will struggle with their mental health, and the church is one of the first places a quarter of us go when we’re struggling – but is it a safe place?
Today on the podcast we are joined by some experts with various insights into this subject, who will help us unpack how the church can be a refuge, how we can break down the stigma surrounding mental health, and help people heal together.

Andrew Blackwood is a Healing Communication Specialist.

Daniel Whitehead is the CEO of Sanctuary Mental Health Ministries, he was a pastor for many years and shares insight from his time as a pastor and now running a ministry helping those struggling with mental health.

Shaila Visser is the National Director of Alpha Canada and shares her experience with those struggling through mental health trials

And Markku Kostamo is the Director of Development for Sanctuary Health Ministries. He was leading a prominent Christian ministry when he experienced a manic episode and was diagnosed with bipolar 1 disorder. He shares his journey with the church and how he feels called to now be a mental health advocate, for others so they too can experience hope and a way forward.
