Why do we lie to ourselves? 

Unfortunately there are many reasons and motivations, most of which are rooted in our insecurities and the desire to present ourselves as different than we are. We want to protect ourselves from fully realizing the truth. We have to see how much harm this can do as we drag the weight of our lies around, keeping us bound to the false self.
